Sheila                Â
A colleague once asked, “If you could do anything, what would it be?” Â Â “Write a cookbook”, I answered.
I like food. Â I like to cook. I am not a chef. Â Tears fall when I slice onions; my knife cuts are never uniform. Â I like to eat food that tastes good but do not want my fill with empty calories.
Hmm… what else… I can
– see one thing in my spice  cabinet and be inspired
– create a tasty meal from a few things in my pantry
– cook with just a list of ingredients
– post pictures of my dinner on Facebook
Maggie is not as good at this. Â In college, each housemate had to cook one night of the week. Â Zatarains was her best friend. Â But Maggie likes food, and she enjoys baking. Â So I needed to update my recipes from ingredients on index cards to instructions on a page. Â Blue Apron recipes she could follow! Â Ok…she COULD post pictures on Facebook, but implored me to PLEASE create a blog for such things. Â So I am. Â But this site will probably become much more than a few recipes. Â For I know that writing is one of my tail waggin’ moments.
 Maggie
…is my collaborator for baking cookies and breads; my official quality control taster; my social media photographer; and my editorial grammar police. Â She is an extraordinary theatre ninja aka technical production assistant. Â Stage management is her forte and she manages my drama with ease. Â She walks the dog, checks the mail, and keeps me on task. Â I am blessed to be her mother.
Lucy
…is my rescuer. Â I adopted her from the Virginia Beach SPCA in 2013 after 3 years of living without a dog. Â She loves to run, I love to sit, yet for some reason our relationship works – only God knows why. Â She is the perfect dog for me who thinks I am the perfect human for her. Â I’m ok with that.
My Beloved
…was my great encourager. Â Steve loved to cook and enjoyed creating delicious meals with me (and for me!) Â We loved to contemplate the world, both the physical and the spiritual. Â He was a chemist who enjoyed teaching. Â I miss him.
More about me …
I am a recent widow on a new path that I never expected would happen before the age of 50. Â I am the mother of two adult children and one step-son, and “Momma” to others met through them or bible study. Â Reading books on historical events or crime suspense is relaxing when there is free time to be had. Â I sing along with the radio but rarely remember all the words.
I have had a plethora of careers starting with tossing the ‘Evening Journal’ newspaper on my neighbors porches. Â I have carried water on my back to fight brush fires and in a pitcher at a retirement home; delivered pizzas in my car and a baby over the telephone; found a million dollars for my boss and Jesus for me.
As you read my posts you will find many tail waggin’ stories and maybe a few that tucked my tail between my legs and sent me scurrying for shelter. Â But even those moments fade into joy for a happy dog can’t help but wag.
– Joyfully, Sheila
