Was renting an RV for 25 days worth it?

June 14, 2018 //  by Sheila Schwartz

Yes!   Do I regret the amount of money I spent?  No.  While I could have bought an older, used RV for less, this was my first RV experience.  I have slept in a tent I carried on my back, slept in a minivan during a road trip, and slept in the back of a pickup during fishing trips.  After a bit of internet research, I decided to rent through RV Share.  This is a web service that handles the rental agreements, insurance, etc for individual owners.

Camping was not a new experience and to be honest, sleeping in an RV really isn’t camping either!  I had a queen size bed, hot water for the shower, flushing toilet, plus a generator and propane to operate a fully functioning kitchen.

Here is a picture of our rented rig.  A 33ft Forest River Sunseeker Class C that is bigger than the ambulances I have driven but handled like a dream.

Why did I rent?

First, because I live in a condo community and have no place to park such a thing!
(If I stored it off site, I’d forget about using it.  I am a classic Out of Sight/Out of Mind gal.)

Second, because I was counseled by my financial advisor not to buy any big ticket items for at least 6 months after I received the life insurance proceeds.
(I confess I did buy myself a HP Spectre laptop/tablet.)

Third, because I know once I get on the road I would not want to come back right away.
(I was right, I only came back because I had to return the rig back to Cindy.)

I will be posting more of this adventure over the next few weeks…

    Sheila,

I’m so glad you and Maggie had the opportunity to take this trip together.
And way to go driving that big rig all over the country 🙂 Glad you made it home safely.

Thanks Sarita! It is good to be home…if only to figure out where to go next! =)

We are so happy that you were able to take this trip with your daughter. We’re especially grateful to have had the opportunity to meet both of you (oh and Lucy too!) Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey.
